Discover the unique Ohře Cycle Route

The Ohře Cycle Route offers a unique experience from the source of the river between the Bavarian towns of Bischofsgrün and Bad Weißenstadt to Litoměřice, where the Ohře flows into the Elbe. Along the way, you will discover Czech and Bavarian spa towns, unique monuments, and interesting nature.

The entire cycle route is almost 300 km long, and we recommend at least 5 to 6 days to visit it. In the Czech Republic, the route is marked as cycle route No. 6, and from the Pomezí border crossing near Cheb to Karlovy Vary, the route is part of the European long-distance route EuroVelo 4.

Stages

Source of the Ohře River – Marktleuthen – Cheb

The first section begins at the source of the Ohře River between the Bavarian towns of Bischofsgrün and Bad Weißenstadt. Worth visiting on this part of the route are the spa town of Bad Weißenstadt, Hohenberg Castle, and the interesting Wellerthal Valley. The destination of this stage is the town of Cheb.

Cheb – Sokolov – Karlovy Vary

The second section of the Ohře Cycle Route starts in Cheb, where you can visit the historic center with its Romanesque castle and legendary Špalíček. The route continues through Kynšperk nad Ohří and Sokolov to Loket, where the unique castle is worth a visit. The destination of this stage is Karlovy Vary.

Karlovy Vary – Klášterec nad Ohří – Kadaň

The third stage can be described as a spa stage. It starts in the largest Czech spa town of Karlovy Vary, leads through Kyselka with its rich spa tradition, and passes through Klášterec nad Ohří with the Evžénie spring. The stage ends in Kadaň.

Kadaň – Žatec – Louny

The fourth stage starts in the historic town of Kadaň, which boasts the narrowest street in the Czech Republic, a monastery, and the iconic white Town Hall Tower. The route continues to the Nechranice reservoir and Žatec, the heart of the hop-growing region and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The stage finishes in Louny.

Louny – Libochovice – Litoměřice

The final stage is full of historical monuments. It begins in Louny with the Church of St. Nicholas, leads through Libochovice with its castle, Budyně nad Ohří with its unique water castle, the fortress town of Terezín, and ends in the historic town of Litoměřice, where the Ohře River flows into the Elbe.
