Right at the start, the spa town of Bad Weißenstadt is worth a visit. On the Bavarian side, the cycle path continues through impressive countryside with peaceful villages, the rugged Wellerthal valley and past the imposing Hohenberg Castle to the state border. Embark on a journey full of nature, monuments, and pleasant stops along the Ohře River.
For a cycling holiday along the Ohře, we recommend dividing the route into at least 5 stages.
This will
give you enough time to get to know the route itself, as well as the tourist attractions along the way and local services and regional products. In the details of each stage in the menu below, you will find a description of the sub-stage and tourist attractions and services in that section. We recommend cycling the Ohře Cycle Route in the direction of the river flow. In this direction, the route is mostly downhill (route profile). Of course, it is also possible to cycle the route upstream, but you will climb more meters in this direction than if you cycle downstream.
Safety is undoubtedly an important factor for cyclists. Due to the length of the route (almost 300 km), the individual sections vary in terms of safety and comfort. In many places, the route runs along cycle paths or roads without regular car traffic. However, there are also sections that are still awaiting the construction of new, more comfortable or safer roads (separate cycle paths or surface improvements), and extra caution is therefore required in these places. Please pay attention to the detailed description of the individual stages below, which also includes warnings about less safe sections, both in terms of motor vehicle traffic and unpaved surfaces. The route is being gradually built and is becoming safer and more comfortable every year.
The surface of the Ohře Cycle Route is varied and diverse. From asphalt to pleasant gravel paths to unpaved field or forest roads. The Ohře Cycle Route is suitable for almost all types of bikes, from mountain bikes to trekking bikes to gravel bikes. In some places, the terrain is unsuitable for road bikes, but even road cyclists will find sections of the route along the Ohře that are suitable for them.
